Electrospun lignin-PVP nanofibers and their ability for structuring oil

This work explores the electrospinnability of low-sulfonate Kraft lignin (LSL)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) solutions in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and ability different micro- nano-architectures generated to structure castor oil. LSL/PVP were prepared at concentrations (8–15 wt%) LSL:PVP ratios (90:10–0:100) physico-chemically rheologically characterized. The morphology electrospun nanostructures mainly depends on rheological properties solution. Electrosprayed nanoparticles or micro-sized particles connected by thin filaments obtained from with low and/or high ratios, whereas beaded bead-free nanofibers produced increasing concentration decreasing ratio, due enhanced extensional viscoelastic non-Newtonian characteristics. Electrospun are able form oleogels simply dispersing them into oil between 10 30 wt%. may be tailored modifying ratio content. potential application these as bio-based lubricants was also explored a tribological cell. Satisfactory friction wear results achieved when using structured mats gel-like lubricants. Overall, electrospinning lignin/PVP can proposed simple effective method produce for structuring.
